LOCKPORT, N.Y. (June
28, 2005) – Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union
(FCU), headquartered in Lockport, N.Y., announced its award
of scholarships to 11 high school student members of the credit
union in the amount of $250 each. The Credit Union Scholarship
Program, organized through the New York State Credit Union League,
awards scholarships based on individual student grades, recommendations
from teachers, participation in extracurricular activities,
test scores and an essay submission.
Cornerstone Community FCU’s 2005 scholarship recipients
are: Yun-En Liu of East Amherst; Daniel Taylor of Niagara Falls;
Megan Abbott of Lockport; Jennifer Farino of Lockport; Stephen
Doe of Newfane; Elizabeth Radka of Cheektowaga; Nicole Hyziak
of Depew; Katherine Keeler of Albion; Anthony Weiland of Lockport;
Leighton Johnson of Lockport; and Stephanie Meyer of North Tonawanda.
Scholarship winner Yun-En Liu is also the recipient of a $1,000
New York State Credit Union Scholarship. Yun-En is a Williamsville
East High School graduate, and additionally belongs to the National
Honor Society, Science Olympiad, high school orchestra, and
a number of student clubs. He is involved in several volunteer
organizations including: Amherst Youth Engaged in Service; the
Kaleida Health Suburban Hospital Junior Volunteer Program; and
the Chromatic Club of Buffalo, a music organization that performs
for seniors at various nursing homes. Yun-En has received several
honors and awards including: National Merit Scholarship finalist;
AP National Scholar; and several Science Olympiad State Winner
medals. With plans to attend Princeton University as a physics
major, Mr. Liu currently resides in East Amherst, N.Y., with
his parents, Pao-Lo and Saw-Lin Han.
