CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO 11 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT MEMBERS

Lockport, N.Y. (June 14, 2006) - Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union (FCU), headquartered in Lockport, N.Y., announced its award of scholarships to 11 high school student members of the credit union in the amount of $250 each. The Credit Union Scholarship Program, organized through the New York State Credit Union League, awards scholarships based on individual student grades, recommendations from teachers, participation in extracurricular activities, test scores and an essay submission.

"We are very pleased to award these scholarships to our hard-working young members," said Paul Feidner, of Cornerstone Community FCU. "It proves that the ’people helping people’ philosophy of the credit union movement is alive and well here in Niagara County."

Cornerstone Community FCU’s 2006 scholarship recipients are: Adam Zayac of Gasport; Amanda Costello of Lockport; Brianne Nicholson of Lockport; Lyle Tolli of Lockport; Carleen Gabrys of Pendleton; Emily Tierney of Albion; Nicholle Hannigan of Lockport; Grady Miller of Lockport; Dennis Miner of Lockport; Lindsey Oliver of Gasport; and Sarah Shaw of Lockport.

Scholarship winner Adam Zayac was also the recipient of an additional $250 scholarship from the Niagara County Credit Union League. Adam is a graduating from Royalton-Hartland where his school activities included: Varsity Football and Track, Student Council, Prom committee, National Honor Society President, and Senior class Vice-President. He is also involved in several volunteer activities such as coaching Roy-Hart Little League, tutoring math, helping with Vacation Bible School at the United Church of Christ in Gasport, and volunteering in the emergency room at Medina Memorial Hospital.

Adam has received several honors and awards including: Business First’s "First Honors"; the Dr. Kaplansky Physics award, the FMC Agricultural Division Chemistry award, National Honor Roll and class Salutatorian. With plans to attend the University of Rochester as a pre-medicine major, Mr. Zayac currently resides in Gasport, N.Y. with his parents Kevin and Lorie Simons.
